As Mrs Quist arrived home, soaked in the all-too-seasonal weather, after dropping the little Quistlets off to school, a pleasant surprise awaited her.
A new version of her favourite piece of software, Gimp 2.6, had been released.
Gimp, or GNU Image Manipulation Program, is a free and open source package for creating and editing images, including photos. It's feature-set rivals the better-known Photoshop and it runs on Windows, Mac and Linux.
If you're already familiar with Photoshop, you'll find switching to Gimp a little confusing at first: pretty much everything's there but it looks different (the "where the bloody hell have they put my menu" feeling).
Whatever, join Mrs Quist and give Gimp a try: it costs nothing and there are loads of tutorials out there so what have you got to lose.
