Thanks to Mrs Quist who's designed a lovely new banner for my blog. We'll probably make a few more changes to the blog design over the next few days.
Edited to add: I've realised that I' ve jumped the gun a bit with a nice banner but a poor design concept (the concept is all mine, the graphics work down to Mrs Quist). Therefore we're going to be reviewing the whole design before launching it. I'll be playing with different ideas over at my test blog created for the purpose. You're welcome to take a look and give me feedback, but do bear in mind that it's a sandbox to play in and very unlikely to resemble a final design in the immediate future.
Mrs Quist has offered to do more work thinking about a design (rather than working to my design brief) so we'll look forward to seeing where it gets us.
Hopefully, as Charlotte suggests in the comments, the design I end up with will say more about me and the blog (though not too much - a bit of mystery doesn't hurt, especially when you're an undercover blogger).

No, no, no!
Why no, Sara?
What does that banner say about who you are, what your blog is about and what your intended audience might be?
The image is very nice. Does it 'fit' though?
You have a couple of interesting 'in' points for a good design although it's a tricky one! Costigan Quist is a hell of a name but is a pen name or your real name? Hard to tell. And what on earth is a Himmelgarten Café? What links all this to politics or the lib dems? The right design could tie all this together and make something that looks really original and fresh. Maybe that's what you're doing and we just need to wait for it to be finished :)
Good points, Charlotte. It is work-in-progress and I might decide to update the main banner as well as changing other bits around the site.
The idea behind the banner is a Cafe-style sign, but it got a little simplified (perhaps too simplified).
You're right - I don't think it's there yet in terms of one neat design that sums up everything there is to be summed up. Whether I can manage it we shall see.
I wouldn't want to reveal everything behind the site name, but clicking on my profile answers at least one of the questions.
Ah I see. :) Yes, all is revealed!
Because it doesn't look liberal, wise or political. I think the design should reflect the purpose, not the name. After all, as both your name and the name of the blog itself are fronts, why use those as illustrations?
And dancing firls - how passe!
Sorry - I meant girls, not firls - that what comes of touch typing with cold fingers!
I am of course rather fond of plain blog designs - as you can see from ine - so maybe I should be ignored.
No other form of advertising comes close to capturing the attention of your audience than a low flying airplane towing a large aerial banneri
